BGB ENGINEERING STANDARD SLIP RINGS
Our robust range of standard slip rings lends itself to a multitude of application speeds. Barrel and face type units use phosphor bronze rings as standard within an insulation medium of thermoset glass-reinforced DMC based on unsaturated polyester resin (Grades 43-2036/597 and 43-2036/623).
Applications include:-
Alternators, Slip Ring Motors, Frequency Changers, Cable Reeling Drums,
Cable Bunching Machines, Rotary Display Lighting, Electro-Magnetic Clutches, Wind Generators, Packaging Machines, Rotary Welding Machines, Leisure Rides and Power and Signal Transfer Packages.
(Please note: studding is not equidistance on all slip rings)
Barrel Type
Ring material is standard as phosphor-bronze grade PB1 to BS 1400, but some units use copper or cupro-nickel. Standard barrel type slip rings are available up to 11 ways. Diameters range from 24 to 291mm.
Modular Type
Designed to allow for greater adaptability and application of duty. Best results are obtained when surfaces are plated with silver, gold or rhodium and used in conjunction with silver-graphite brushes, thus giving low contact resistance and low noise conditions.
The maximum number of ways available for a modular unit is dependent upon the mix of power circuits and signals required. Diameters range from 35 to 200mm.
‘Face Type’ or Pancake
Fine brass rings are used for signals and can be plated with silver, gold or rhodium where low contact resistance and low noise levels are required. The best results are obtained when these precious metal surfaces are used in conjunction with silver-graphite brushes. These units are suitable for slow speed only when fitted with brass rings.
To accommodate power transmission, larger section brass rings can be fitted for slow and medium speeds. Phosphor-bronze rings are fitted for high speed applications. Standard face type slip rings are available up to 18 ways and a diameter of 280mm.
Fabricated, Built-Up & Cast Barrel Type
Our craftsmen will engineer hand-built slip rings up to 380mm diameter. Facilities include the fabrication of units from DMC insulation and SRBF, built-up units using insulated steel hubs and heat expanded rings, and all types of re-building, re-insulating and repairing of slip ring units.
