BGB Marine Electrical Safety
Although good practice in underwater luminaire design undoubtedly promotes reliability, safety can only be assured through a properly configured power distribution system.
All metal halide lamps require high voltage pulses, provided by an igniter circuit, to initiate a discharge within the tube. The commonly used European lamp control system can be configured with the pulse igniter module separated from the underwater lamp housing, contained within a topside enclosure; indeed such systems are offered by certain manufacturers for aquacultural use.
BGB Marine do not advocate such an arrangement as it requires potentially lethal high voltage pulses to be conducted by a connecting cable through water. Pisces luminaires are therefore entirely self contained, enclosing all components necessary for ignition and control of the lamp discharge.View Product PDF's
