Fibre Optic Rotary Joints (FORJs) are ideal in applications such as Tethered Drones or UAV's (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles), and other remotely operated vehicles (ROVs).

Tethered Drones allow for extended flight duration with secure communication via the tether.  The platform is very stable and uses secure power line communication (PLC) to send telemetry up and bring HD video or data streaming down to the base station.

FORJ's in Tethered Drones:  A FORJ can often be found in the aluminium tube (used as a shaft for the winch system) to transmit large video or data to the main hub via the umbilical.

Free flying drones are ideal in many scenarios, but when the situation requires a continuous ‘on station’ solution that can remain in flight all day and all night, a tethered drone application is perfect.

Tethered Drones are ideal for the following industries:
> Multi-use for broadcasters – especially outdoor sporting events
> Emergency services including search and rescue
> High-risk maintenance inspections for oil and gas platforms and wind farms – both on and offshore
> Military
> Construction

and many more.
